从豆科的决明子(Cassia tora L.)种子中分到一种新的萘酚-α-吡喃酮衍生物toralactone是一种淡黄色针状或柱状结晶,无味、无嗅、可升华、无旋光性。其氯仿溶液在紫外线下呈现蓝紫色强萤光。结晶在日光下渐变为黄褐色,微溶于甲醇、苯和乙酸乙酯,溶于氯仿,并在Mg(OAC)_2-乙醇液及浓硫酸中溶解呈淡蓝色。氯化铁及Gibbs反应均呈阳性。决明子1公斤原料用甲醇提取,在浓缩的提取液中加入10%硫酸,滤取沉淀,通过硅胶柱层析,纯化后得150毫克toralactone纯品,熔点253~254℃。元素分析及质谱结果确定其分子式为C_(15)H_(12)O_5,经红外光谱和核磁共振谱测定,最后证明toralactone的结构式为(Ⅰ):
