The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) announced that they are developing a new technology to reduce the frictional resistance of future naval and commercial vessels. For a long time, researchers have been convinced that adding polymer or microbubbles to the water flow around the propeller blades of a ship can theoretically reduce the frictional resistance by 80%. However, this theory has never been practiced on actual shipboard systems.
