Below are different signs and symptoms that may be associated with a computer virus infection and ways to rid the computer of viruses.
Symptoms of a computer virus infection
1. Running slower
If you find that your computer system seems to be experiencing some sluggishness, or running a bit slower than it normally operates, the potential for being infected with a computer virus is quite high. If you do not have a computer virus, you may be experiencing issues with spyware on the system.
2. Error messages
If your computer has already been attacked by a virus, it is quite likely that you may start to see various types of error messages that you are unfamiliar with.
3. Stopping responding
Many individuals who experience an infection with a computer virus may start to notice that the computer system will often lock up and stop responding. This may or may not be accompanied by error messages.
4. Running improperly
Applications and programs on a computer that are infected with a virus may start to fail to initialize and/or run properly. If this issue is not corrected by uninstalling and reinstalling the application or program, you may be experiencing complications with a serious computer virus that is corrupting the data on your hard drive.
5. Disk drives not accessible
Many computer viruses pose a serious threat to the various disk drives that are on the computer system. When an infection is occurring, it may become evident that the various disk drives on the computer system are not made accessible. This is definitely a sign of a very serious computer virus infection.
6. Experience issues in some tasks
Many individuals who experience complications with computer viruses may find that they experience issues in printing and other types of tasks. This is often a result of corruption to the files in the drivers of the printer and other hardware products.
Ways to rid the computer of viruses
1. Placing an anti-virus program
You should consider placing an anti-virus program on your computer and running a thorough scan. You will likely find that once the scan is complete, there is at least one virus on the computer that is causing your complications.
2. Anti-virus software suite or a malicious software removal tool
Viruses cannot be removed in the “add/remove” programs option in your computer. In order to remove them completely, they must be controlled by a good anti-virus software suite or a malicious software removal tool.
41. According to the passage, what can you do to protect your computer from a virus?
A. Never surf the Internet.
B. Never send or receive e-mails.

A diet, high in fats, sugars, and processed foods in early childhood may lower IQ, while a diet packed full of vitamins and nutrients may do the opposite, according to research published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health. The authors base their findings on participants in the Avon Longitudinal Study of Parents and Children(ALSPAC), which is tracking the long term health and wellbeing of around 14,000 children born in 1991 and 1992.
Parents completed questionnaires, detailing the types and frequency of the food and drink their children consumed when they were 3, 4, 7 and 8.5 years old.
Three dietary patterns were identified: “processed” high in fats and sugars intake; “traditional” high in meat and vegetables intake; and “health conscious” high in salad, fruit and vegetables, rice and pasta(意大利面食). Scores were calculated for each pattern for each child.
IQ was measured using a validated(经过验证的) test(the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children) when they were 8.5 years old. In all, complete data were available for just under 4,000 children.
The results showed that after taking account of potentially influential factors, a mostly processed food diet at the age of 3 was associated with a lower IQ at the age of 8.5, no matter whether the diet improved after that age. Every 1 point increase in dietary pattern score was associated with a 1.67 fall in IQ.
On the other hand, a healthy diet was associated with a higher IQ at the age of 8.5, with every 1 point increase in dietary pattern linked to a 1.2 increase in IQ. Dietary patterns between the ages of 4 and 7 had no influence on IQ.
The authors say that these findings, although modest, agree with previous ALSPAC research showing an association between early childhood diet and later behavior and school performance.
“This suggests that any behavioral effects relating to eating habits in early childhood may well continue into later childhood, despite any later changes (including improvements) to dietary intake,” they say.
The brain grows at its fastest rate during the first three years of life, say the authors, by way of a possible explanation for the findings, adding that other research has indicated that head growth at this time is linked to intellectual ability.
“It is possible that good nutrition during this period may encourage best brain growth,” they suggest, advocating further research to determine the extent of the effect early diet has on intelligence.
45. What kind of dietary pattern is good for IQ?
A. A dietary high in meat and rice.
B. A dietary high in fats and sugars intake.
C. A dietary high in sugars and vegetables intake.
D. A dietary high in salad, fruit and vegetables, rice and pasta.
46. During which period does dietary play an important part in IQ?
A. During the first three years of life.
B. Between the ages of 7 and 8.5.
C. Between the ages of 4 and 7.
D. Between the ages of 3 and 4.
47. How much does the IQ fall when dietary pattern score increase 3 points?
A. 1.67. B. 5.01. C. 3.6. D. 1.2.
48. Which group of people is the research based on?
A. Teenagers’ parents. B. Young parents.
C. Those born in 1991 and 1992. D. Children in their late twenties.
49. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. A diet may increase one’s IQ.
B. A diet may decrease one’s IQ.
C. A diet may lower or higher one’s IQ.
D. A diet has no influence on one’s IQ.

Jerry was always in a good mood and had something positive to say. If someone asked him how he was doing, he would reply,“If I were any better, I would be twins!”
I met Jerry when I was a young manager in the restaurant industry. He was a unique manager because he was a natural motivator. If an employee was having a bad day, Jerry was there telling him how to look on the positive side of the situation.
Seeing this style made me curious, so one day I asked him, “You can’t be a positive person all the time. How do you do that?”
Jerry replied, “Each morning I say to myself, ‘Jerry, you have two choices today. You can choose to be in a good mood or you can choose to be in a bad mood.’ I choose the former. Each time something bad happens, I can choose to be a victim or to learn from it. I choose to learn from it.”
I thought about what Jerry said. Soon, I left the restaurant business to look for my own business. We lost touch, but I often thought about him when I made a choice about life.
Several years later, I heard that Jerry had left the back door open and three armed robbers walked in and shot at him, three bullets right through his abdomen. Then he was rushed to a local hospital. After 18 hours’ surgery and weeks’ intensive cares, he finally recovered.
I saw Jerry about six months later. When I asked him what had gone through his mind when the robbery was happening, he replied, “The first thing that went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door. Then as I was lying on the floor, I was thinking that I had two choices: I could choose to live, or to die. I was choosing to live.”
Jerry continued the story, “The doctors were great. They kept telling me I was going to be fine. But I got really scared when I saw they all looked like I was a dead man. I knew I needed to take action.”
“What did you do?” I asked.
“Well, there was a nurse shouting at me,‘Jerry, are you allergic to anything?’‘Yes,’ I shouted back.‘What?’ she asked. The doctors and nurses stopped and waited for my reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Bullets!’ They all started laughing and I told them, ‘Look, I am choosing to live. Operate on me as if I am a living man, not a dead man.’”
Jerry lived in part because of his doctors, but in large part because of his positive attitude.
50. What kind of person was Jerry?
A. Pessimistic. B. Optimistic. C. Fortunate. D. Wealthy.
51. What can we conclude from this passage?
A. Attitude is nothing.
B. Attitude is everything.
C. Jerry and I were close friends.
D. Jerry had nothing to worry about.
52. From the underlined sentence in Paragraph 8, we know ________.
A. Jerry had already been dead
B. Jerry was scared to death
C. the doctors and nurses were not responsible
D. the doctors and nurses thought Jerry was unlikely to survive
53. Why did Jerry say he was allergic to bullets?
A. Because he wanted to show his humor.
B. Because he was really allergic to bullets.
C. Because he wanted the doctors and nurses to laugh.
D. Because he wanted them to be positive to his survival.
54. What is Jerry’s influence on the author?
A. The author tried to be as positive as Jerry.
B. The author learned how to be humorous.
C. The author was successful in his career.
D. The author became a good manager.

Our parents divorced when Karen was a child, and a few years later we were blessed with the best of a complicated world—a father and a stepfather. The situation became a bit confusing later on down the road. Especially when it was time for Karen to get married.
As something happened in those days, long before shared custody(抚养权)and divorce mediation(调解), we didn’t have much contact with our natural father. It was hoped that our new stepfather would grow to be the apple of our eyes.
Gordon was, in fact, a wonderful man. He accepted us as his children and went on to encourage, advise and play a major part in the raising of my sister and me. He was the humor in an otherwise dry existence. He was the fun where there often wasn’t any. And he was the true keeper of our hearts, with our best interests always at the center of his own.
I kept ties with my natural father, too, although initially strained(勉强的). I saw the situation for what it was and did my best to mend all wounds. Gordon supported this whole-heartedly. Karen, being years younger than me, grew up without really knowing our natural father.
When Karen was in high school and I was married, living far away from home, we went through a second divorce. This time, however, I was careful to maintain ties. Gordon remained the father figure he’d always been and even became “Grandpa Gordon” to my firstborn. Karen and Gordon grew apart some, but reestablished ties after graduation.
Gordon eventually remarried. Carol was ideally suited to him and understood the complications of our situation. When they both encouraged Karen to mend her severed(切断的) ties with Dad, she bravely set about renewing a relationship she barely remembered.
Communication with Dad was, at its best, on the surface. We knew he loved us and he knew we loved him, but the words were seldom spoken aloud. And none of us ever mentioned our relationship with Gordon.
Before Karen announced her engagement, she voiced her concerns: “I want Gordon to give me away when I get married.”
“Mm-hmm,” I replied.
“But I want Dad to give me away, too. I don’t want to hurt either one of them.”
I knew Gordon would understand. My father, however, would be a little harder to convince. “Let me see what I can do.”
A letter, I decided, felt right. Gordon, of course, was privy(知情的) to my plan and supported it.
Dear Dad,
We were children when this all started, and the situation was completely out of our hands. As adults now, we need and want you to be our father. We love you and want you to be a part of our lives.
But Gordon is a part of our lives, too. He has been a good man, an honest man, and has done everything a father would do for his children.
Karen is getting married in a few months. It would mean the world to her, and to me, if you would walk her down the aisle—together with Gordon.
Loving Gordon doesn’t mean in any way that we love you any less. There is plenty of room for two wonderful fathers in our lives. Gordon always encouraged contact with you, never spoke a word against you or undermined our feelings for you. We respect the fact that you never voiced negative feelings about Gordon.
Give this some thought. Remember both Karen and I love you and want our family ties to be restored. Remember that in your absence, we established strong family ties with Gordon, and it would be unfair to all of us to expect that to stop.
It would be a beautiful sight to watch Karen walking down the aisle on her wedding day, flanked by two wonderful fathers. It would be an answer to prayer.
I love you.
Kate
A couple of weeks later, Karen received a phone call from Dad.
“So where do I go to get measured for my tuxedo(燕尾服)?”
In late August, Karen walked down the aisle with a handsome father on each side of her. They wore identical tuxedos with matching smiles and radiated the same fatherly love and joy.
The blessing to Karen and I was twofold. In addition to ending years of confusion and estrangement(疏远), we learned to share the joy of being the proud daughters of two extraordinary fathers.

56. In Karen and Kate’s eyes, Gordon ________.

A. She loved him all the time.
B. Their relationship wasn’t good until she married.
C. They never kept in touch since he divorced her mother.
D. Their relationship was weakened by Karen’s marriage.
59. Before Karen’s wedding, she got into a confusing situation of wanting her natural father as well as Gordon to give her away, what happened at last?

Growing up is not easy. Sometimes all that is need is someone to rely on. For many years, she was Mum. My mother was a career woman and had her own problems to take care, but when I needed her, she was always there. Her strength came from anywhere I don’t quite know, somewhere very deep. She was such strong that she would never break down, even when I went to her with all my little boy problems and shout at her. Her strength made me stronger and gave to me courage to try things other thought was impossible. A helping hand is always stronger enough to lift you up.

C. Use computer as little as possible.
