动机是影响外语学习者学习成绩与效果的重要因素之一。英语教师在激发学习者动机方面发挥着重要的作用。近年来,有关教师如何激发学习者的动机,即教师的动机策略问题,引起了研究者的广泛关注。现有研究所涉及的对象主要为中国本土的英语教师,而对日益扩大的母语为英语的外籍教师群体仍较少关注。本研究通过问卷调查与访谈的研究方法,考察了102名母语为英语的中小学外籍教师对动机策略的认识和实际使用情况,归纳出外教课堂上有效激发学习者动机的11项宏观策略,以及外教对动机策略认识和使用的三个特点:重视良好学习情境的营造、注重非智力因素的培养以及受到中西文化差异的双重影响。
Motivation is one of the important factors that affect the learning achievement and effectiveness of foreign language learners. English teachers play an important role in motivating learners. In recent years, how to stimulate the motivation of learners, that is, motivation strategies of teachers has aroused widespread concern of researchers. The existing research mainly targets native English teachers in China, while less attention is paid to the growing group of foreign teachers whose native language is English. Through questionnaires and interviews, this study examines the understanding and practical use of 102 motivational strategies by English-speaking foreign teachers in primary and secondary schools. It also summarizes 11 macro-strategies for motivating learners effectively in foreign teachers’ classrooms, and Foreign teachers’ understanding and use of motivation strategies have three characteristics: emphasizing the construction of a good learning situation, focusing on the cultivation of non-intelligence factors and being influenced by the cultural differences between China and the West.
