This article discusses a novel 3-sensing element probe. Its three thermal sensing elements are mounted in parallel on the same cylindrical quartz fiber rod at 120 ° intervals. This probe is used to measure reverse flow. The probe calibration procedure requires 135 sets of combinations of flow and angle, which requires that the computer be coupled to the measurement system in a semi-automated manner. The computer calculates 140 sets of rate constants, which completely describe the relationship between the output voltage of the three flow meters and the flow rate and angle.
