Objective To investigate the changes in the measured ultrasound of kidney length after drinking water. Methods The kidney length was measured before and after drinking in 300 patients (240 patients in group A and 60 patients in group B) with non-renal disease. Results The average length of right kidney and left kidney before drinking water were (106.2 ± 5.5) mm and (107.5 ± 5.7) mm, respectively, with no significant difference between the two sides (P> 0.05). The average length of the right kidney and left kidney after drinking water were (113.5 ± 6.1) mm and (114.6 ± 6.6) mm, respectively. Before and after drinking water on both sides of the kidney length was statistically significant (P <0.01). The increase in length is 6.8% on the right and 6.6% on the left. Age and gender had no significant effect on the measurement results. Conclusion There was a significant change in the length of the kidneys after drinking water, suggesting that we need to pay attention to their drinking status when using ultrasound to evaluate kidney length in patients with kidney disease.
