The upcoming animated Disney film Planes： Fire & Rescue thrusts[用力推] its main character， Dusty Crophopper， into the front lines of forest firefighting.
“There are people out there fighting these wildfires every day， and we don’t hear about them，” says director Bobs Gannaway. “Once we started digging[挖掘] deeper into the world， we found these amazing stories we could tell through our characters.”
Those characters include Ed Harris voicing a veteran[退伍军人] fire-and-rescue helicopter alongside Dane Cook as Dusty in the sequel[续集] to 2013’s Planes. Let’s take a look.

“Dusty truly enters a life-and-death world，” says Gannaway.

“When Ed Harris talks， you listen，” says producer Ferrell Barron. “He commands[指挥] the room.”

“I was so excited，” says Gannaway of bringing Modern Family’s Bowen to her first voice role. “I finally found someone who talks faster than me.”

Windlifter is a heavy-lift helicopter that can carry dozens of trees or a huge tank of fire retardant[阻燃剂]. The American Indian’s wisdom is vast[大量的]—he has plenty of fire folklore[民间传说]—and his connection to nature allows him to sense fires before they’re even spotted[发现].
“We wanted a strong， silent character，” says Gannaway. “So when he speaks you know it’s impactful[有力的].”

The Smokejumpers are a fearless team of grounded firefighters， led by the strong and short-tempered[易怒的] Dynamite[炸药] （voice of Regina King）—so named because you don’t wanna set her off.

This rugged[粗壮的] outdoorsman[常在野外活动的人] loves being in nature； he spends most of his time away from his office in Washington， visiting the national forests and parks and helping to spread his message of conservation[保护].
“We wanted to make sure the Secretary of the Interior was a down-to-earth character，”says Barron. “He’s competent[胜任的]， smart and likable[值得喜欢的].”
