诗歌用典,很早就开始了。因为典故是一个文化基因团,它的植入,可使短短的诗句充满文化积淀,每一句装载一个成语故事,就像每一艘快艇装载一枚导弹一般具有远射程的超越历史的杀伤力。知道这种好处的诗人,很早就开始用典。魏晋诗人如曹操的《短歌行》,化用《诗经》中的诗句,表达自己求贤若渴的心情;西晋的左思,其《咏史》八首,借古人古事以表达他对门阀制度的强烈不满,组诗引用古人古事达二十四处之多,情典结合,风骨凛凛。钟嵘《诗品》评为:
