Atlanta, United States: A new noninvasive technique, known as Light Reflectometry (LRR), is being used here and purportedly to better and faster diagnose common diseases such as varicose veins and static channis. This new technology invented by the West Germans was recently exhibited at the 69th Annual Meeting of the American College of Surgeons. Thomas O’Donnell Jr, director of vascular surgery at Tufts and New England Medical Centers in Boston, said the LRR has been widely used in Europe but has not been widely available in the United States. This method helps physicians deal with the critical venous conditions that sometimes lead to such as pulmonary embolism. The use of this non-invasive technique enables quick and easy diagnosis of varicose veins and a variety of more severe venous diseases in about 30% of American adults. This test is painless because it eliminates the need to insert a needle into the leg to measure venous pressure. LRR technology is the introduction of vertical infrared light into the skin deep, superficial and deep venous blood flow measurement. More
