I. Background Introduction The fifth edition of the PEP “Chinese” arranges the teaching units of western modernism literature, which puts many language teachers in an awkward position. First of all, from the students’ point of view, on the one hand, they lack a perceptual understanding of the humanistic background of Western society and are even more unfamiliar with the expression and narration of Western modernist literary works. On the other hand, after entering the third year, students have to deal with a large number of special projects. Basic training, with intense class hours and impetuous temperament, it is difficult to have a keen interest in these long and difficult-to-understand texts. Secondly, from the teacher’s point of view, due to Western modernist literature
