武汉会战是抗战中时间最久、规模最大、战线最长的大型会战,在抗战史上具有重要意义。伴随着会战的准备与战局的发展,作家以充沛的激情与丰富的艺术形式为“保卫大武汉”擂鼓助威。会战打响之后,文学作品从不同角度予以表现,有小兵的即兴吟诵,也有高级将领的慷慨赋诗,更有作家的倾心书写。作品中呈现出复杂万端的战场风云,有令人欢欣鼓舞的万家岭大捷,也有牺牲惨烈的亭子山挫折,歌颂了我军将士的爱国情怀与牺牲精神。但由于主观与客观的多重原因,全景武的武汉会战叙事作品较为欠缺,个中留下了值得深长思之的问题。
