Teacher: OK, everybody. Ready? Let’s settle down. Today, I’m going to show you a story. A long time ago, the soul of our planet was sick. People had become isolated[使孤立] and warlike[好战的]. Our world was frightened. It was dying. But a great scientist was trying to save us. He had tried many times, and he knew he could only try……nce more. This was the last Mimzy.

Emma: Hey, Noah. Mimzy knows things.
Noah: Oh, yeah? What kind of things?
Emma: I think she reads minds. She knows all about us.
  Noah: Like what?
Emma: She knows our names, where we were born, and what kind of French fries I like.
  Noah: That’s nice.
Emma: And you know what else? She said dad’s gonna call. (phone rings) That’s daddy!
  Mom: Hey, guess what?
  Emma: I know. Daddy’s coming.
Mom: Well, how do you know that? He just called me from the car.
  Emma: Mimzy told me.
  Noah: Yeah, Mimzy told her.

Mom: I don’t know what’s got into them. You know, Emma, she just hangs onto that rabbit day and night. And Noah, it’s just like he’s on another planet. You know? They’re not my babies any more.
  Dad: Oh.
Mom: No, it’s true. You know, we haven’t played one board game[棋类游戏] since we’ve been here. Not one. You know, we’ve barely talked apart from at dinner, and then they run off before they’re done. I……It’s really different. I……
Dad: They’re growing up. They’ll always be your babies, Jo. Our babies.

Julie: “Twas brillig, and the slithy toves. Did gyre and gimble in the wabe: All Mimsy were the borogoves, And the mome raths outgrabe.”
Emma: Wait. Did that say Mimzy?
  Julie: Uh, yep[(俚语)是].
Emma: Let me see. Look! She’s got Mimzy too!
  Julie: With the white rabbit?
  Emma: Yeah.
  Julie: OK.
Emma: And this is Mimzy. She came here to find me. I don’t know why.
Julie: White rabbit, just like in the book! You know, he was the one who was always late for a very important date. (laughs) Where did you get it?
Emma: We found her on the beach. Noah thinks she’s from outer space, but he doesn’t really know.
  Julie: Outer space.
Emma: Do you believe in aliens?
Julie: Aliens? Like……lying saucers[飞碟] and things like that? Yeah, I guess I do, sort of.
  Emma: Noah does too.
  Julie: Oh, well...boys.
Emma: Do you think aliens would ever come here?
Julie: Some people think they might be here right now. And we don’t even know it.
  Emma: Really?
  Julie: Mm-hm.
Emma: But what do they want?
  Julie: I don’t know.
Emma: Noah doesn’t know if they’re good or bad, if they wanna help us or kill us, or maybe steal our brains.
  Julie: Steal our brains? Hmm.

Officer: We know these things, these objects...are made from technology that no one here’s ever seen before. And somehow they have a Intel logo[标志] etched[蚀刻] in their molecules[分子]. We know that there was a major power outage[(电力)停止供应期] in half the state. We know, or at least we think we saw a little girl atomize[使分裂为原子] her arm. Does anybody have any thoughts on this?
Emma: Can I talk? (Mimzy purring[咕噜咕噜叫]) Mimzy’d like to speak to you.
Officer: She wants to speak? Where?
Emma: She’s in the other room. She’s telling me what to say. The people in the future can’t travel through time. They need our help. Something in them is broken. And we can fix it. We have what they need. She says it’s in our genes[基因].
  Officer: Our genes?
Emma: They’ve been sending other Mimzys into the past, to look for it. But none of them have come back. She says she is the last one. She says people can’t travel through time, ‘Cause they’ll die. So they built dolls to do it, like Mimzy. But she won’t be here much longer. She’s disintegrating[分解]. Mommy, we have to send her back right away. She says everybody’s dying.

  Noah: We did it, Emma.
  Emma: Yeah, it worked.
Mom: Baby, are you all right?
Emma: Yes, I am?I’ll miss you, Mimzy.
Teacher: Mimzy returned to her own time, as if time had stopped. It was what the scientist had hoped for, to find a soul in the past...not contaminated[污染] by the pollutants[污染物质] that filled our bodies...and minds. Our precious quality of humanity[人性] had been turned off, but in Emma’s tears was the instruction for an awakening. And it spread like wild flowers. People shed[脱下] their protective suits. And over time, humanity blossomed[兴旺,发展] again. Our world was saved by a child, very much like you. Emma was our mother, the mother of us all.

  Know More
这首名字古怪的诗出现在英国作家刘易斯•卡罗尔(Lewis Carroll)所著的《爱丽丝镜中奇遇记》(Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There,1871)第一章,是一首著名的“胡话诗”(nonsense verse)。
在书中,作者借Humpty Dumpty(一个矮胖子,长得像一只大鸡蛋,是镜中世界的语言学家)之口解释了在第一节中出现的混合词的含义。 难怪爱丽丝读完这首诗歌之后会说:“蒊t seems to fill my head with ideas ?only I don’t know exactly what they are!
  slithy:slimy(粘滑的)和lithe(柔软的)的合成词。
  mimsy:miserable(悲惨的)和flimsy(轻而薄的、易损坏的)的合成词。
