摘 要：Pride and Prejudice was the famous author Jane Austens former literature work. The novel described four marriages about middle class in 18th century in Britain. It was a major line of disputable marriage between hero and heroine, and disclosed different ideas in front of different people. This article described marriage should be built on love which can make people happy and analyzes Elizabeth and Darcys characteristic.

1.Elizabeths characteristic is clever and virtuous
From the beginning of Pride and Prejudice, Mr. Bennet had pointed that: "They are all silly and ignorant like other girls; but Lizzy has something more of quickness than her sisters." From this sentence, we have an initial impression to Elizabeth; other sisters were all confused, only Elizabeth was clever. Elizabeth was the main character in Pride and Prejudice; she owned many advantages:
She was lovely and clever. And her honesty, beauty and lively wit enable her to rise above the nonsense and bad behavior that pervade her class-bound and often spiteful society. Nevertheless, her sharp tongue and tendency to make hasty judgment often lead her astry. Because of this habit to define hasty judgment and prejudice make her refuse Darcys suggestion of marriage.
To corresponding prejudice is Elizabeths virtuous. Because of Jane who was Elizabeths eldest sister had caught a cold in Bingleys home, only this little illness, the other three sisters didnt put it in heart, so as to their mother. But Elizabeth insisted on seeing how Janes illness, moreover without cars, she walked three miles alone in muddy and didnt care how she was in a difficult position when she arrived at Bingleys home, even it was very impolite to visit them. Though Lydias characteristic was incompatible with her; when Lydia wanted to have holidays, Elizabeth undertook sister and mothers complains and persuaded father that didnt let Lydia go. At that time, Elizabeth and Darcys relation just had a favorable turn; she didnt cheat Darcy and told his the true facts. Fortunately, Darcy dealt with Lydia and Wickhams thing in a good way, and Elizabeth promised to marry to him.
2.Darcys characteristic is proud and tolerant
Darcy was Bingleys good friend, but his first impression to all the other people was not good: proud and disagreeable. In fact, his proud was the most important reason that led his first love expression failed. For example, when he wanted to propose to Elizabeth, he talked more on how big distance between them, not in order to her beautiful appearance or other flatters and he thought she could promise and she couldnt refuse him. However, his attitude of arrogance made Elizabeth angry and she pointed that his arrogance: "I have never desired your good opinion, and you have certainly bestowed it most unwillingly." Elizabeth didnt want to flatter Darcy, she hate Darcys attitude of proud to her, hated him to destroy her elder sister Jane and Bingleys relation, and even she believed Wickhams talks, these factors made she produce more prejudice and she wanted to protect her self-confidence to destroy Darcys over-confidence. From his shows, we should know how arrogance Darcy is. 3.Their marriage based on love
Elizabeth promised to marry Darcy who was not the original Darcy, and without arrogance, was a genuinely and sincerely man treated his love. This is an ideal marriage, because they love each other with their wholehearted.
Through Darcys observation, he closed to Elizabeth gradually; this way made Elizabeth feel unhappy in the early of the story, and she thought that Darcy used this way to destroy her impression in other peoples heart. Because of these, they had prejudice to each other. Until Elizabeth knew Wickhams lies and elopement with her youngest, she realized that a good marriage must be built on love and sincerity, beautiful appearance and happy talks were not communication by heart. When all the problems were solved, she accepted Darcys love, it concluded love and respect.
The author Austen also pointed that their marriage was the most successful and ideal, every marriage should build on love, only you own love, you can feel how happy you are! This is the true life you own!
