This paper investigates how Chinese blind people characterize the spatial information of large scenes by means of interview and verbal gestures. The results are as follows: (1) When the blind people express their spatial information verbally, they tend to use the sub-narrative, the total number of words and (2) There are roughly the same number of verbal gestures of blind people and bright-eyed people, but there are some differences in their types. This shows that the main function of blind people ’s gestures is to encode various types of spatial movement information for the speaker. ) Blind speech and gesture show segmental and holistic features, which are mainly related to the different modes of the two and their differences in the cognitive prominence of the encoded semantic information.
