第72届美国语言学研究会年会于1998年1月8～11日在美国纽约召开。该研究会下设5个研究分会:美国方言研究会、北美语言学史研究会、加勒比语言学研究会、洋泾滨与克里奥尔语言学研究会、美州土著语言研究会。与会代表近500人。大家就语言学理论和应用语言学理论进行了深入的探讨,在理论必须与实践相结合,语言学理论研究要服务于语言的习得,语言的运用等方面达成了共识。密歇安州立大学的J.Falk教授对美国语言学领域的变革发表了见解。他认为美国语言学领域已经完成了由历史语言学向非历史语言学的转变。1924年当29位专家、学者商议成立美国语言学研究会时,其中至少有21人从事历史语言学和比较语言学的教学和研究工作,
The 72nd American Linguistics Society Annual Meeting was held on January 8-11, 1998 in New York, United States. The research will be divided into five research chapters: the American Dialect Association, North American Linguistics History Society, Caribbean Linguistics Society, Yang Jing Bin and Creole Linguistics Society, the Native American Language Institute. Nearly 500 participants. We discussed the theory of linguistics and the theory of applied linguistics in depth, and reached a consensus on the combination of theory and practice, the study of linguistic theory to serve the acquisition of language and the use of language. Professor J. Falk at Michigan State University delivered an opinion on the changes in the field of American linguistics. He believes that the field of American linguistics has completed the transition from historical linguistics to non-historical linguistics.
