There are some problems in secondary school Chinese teaching that have not been satisfactorily resolved in the long run. One of them is the task of mission. On this issue, most of the disagreements of the past have focused on “cultural and tract relations.” In the late 1950s and early 1960s, there was a “war of words and passages”. Hundreds of articles were published in newspapers and magazines for as long as three or four years. By 1963, the Ministry of Education published a draft full-time Chinese language syllabus for secondary schools.
