Orlando Bloom's Adventure —From an Elf to a Pirate
On the screen, Orlando Bloom plays a reluctant[不情愿的] pirate. In life, he’s an unassuming[谦逊的] superstar. Despite a hefty[重的] bank account and rights to a place on every hottest, sexiest, most beautiful list out there, the only thing puffed up[膨胀] about Bloom is his pirate shirt.
His first major movie role was in The Lord of the Rings trilogy[三部曲], playing the ethereal[轻盈的] elf Legolas, a role he received only days before graduating drama school in London. Two years later, when The Fellowship of the Ring premiered[首映], audiences were instantly attracted by the blonde haired, blue eyed elf with killer cheek bones, who was also handy with a bow and arrow. It didn’t take long for Bloom to become a full fledged[羽翼丰满的] teen heartthrob[万人迷], hailed[欢呼] by magazines as “The next big thing. In interviews and magazines, fans discovered that off-screen, he was quite different to his movie counterpart. With brown eyes, dark hair, olive skin, and a keen[敏锐的] yet quirky[特有的] fashion sense, he looked right at home on the cover of GQ注. Unlike the quiet Legolas, Bloom was full of energy and infectious[有感染力的] enthusiasm[热情], charming everyone he worked with.

Q: What’s the attraction of doing Pirates? Is it a fulfillment of your childhood fantasies?
OB: My whole career has been fulfilling my childhood fantasies. I play characters that are larger than life[有传奇色彩的]. Getting to play a knight, an elf, a prince, a soldier, I’re really lived out all of my childhood fantasies. Pirates wasn’t like living out another childhood fantasy, though. It was just a great opportunity to work with some great people Johnny Depp, I’re always admired him. When I signed up to do the first one, it was to be on-set with somebody like him, to see how he handles[处理好] himself, to see how he goes about it.

Q: What did you find most surprising about Johnny Depp?
OB: That he has no fear. I thought he was this quiet guy, but he has no problem as big and bold and bright as he likes. He loves danger. He’s taught me that all that matters is the work. You always want to be different and do different things. But that takes courage when people have a certain view of you. God knows, I’m ready to shave the fluff[绒毛] off my face and cut my hair and create a whole different character.

  Q: Was it exhausting[疲惫不堪的] shooting two sequels[续集] simultaneously[同时地]?
OB: It’s a real ensemble[全体] movie, so it’s not like I’m on the whole time. At the same time, you’re got the arc[弧线] of two movies to cover. You can be shooting a scene from the second movie in the morning and the third movie in the afternoon. Trying to remember where your character is emotionally at that point in the movie can be a bit more challenging.

Q: How was it shooting in the Caribbean?
OB: It was chaotic[混乱的]. We were shooting in hurricane[飓风] alley[通道] in the middle of hurricane season. We got evacuated[撤退] twice.

Q: How do you feel about devoting around two and a half years to a project?
OB: I love it. I’m not saying I don’t want to keep mixing it up, because I do. But I’m grateful for the opportunity I’re had working on a movie like this. I think they are films that are going to stay around and stand the test of time. It would be great to show my kids and grandkids one day.

Q: Finally, what’s the hardest part of being a celebrity[
OB: Having to be “Onthe whole time. Sometimes, if you’re having a bad day, you want to bury your head in the sand[逃避现实], but then someone you’re never met is really excited to see you, and you can’t disappoint them.
