Taking out Lunch
有读者来信说，她有一位刚来的“老外”同事，因为初来乍到，对附近不是很熟，所以午餐时，她很想帮他点餐，可是却不知道怎么说。其实，在编辑部也有这样的情况呢，Greg刚来的时候，也经常为不知到哪里吃午餐发愁。不过，幸好，有热心的Sally。
Sally: Hi, Greg, what are you doing for lunch today?
嗨，Greg，你今天中午吃什么？
Greg: I’m in a time 1)crunch on this project. I’ll need to work straight through lunch.
这份东西时间有点紧，午餐时间我还要一直工作。
Sally: Are you going to order in, then?
那你要点餐吗？
Greg: Guess I’ll have to, I didn’t bring anything with me from home.
我想我不得不点了，我没有从家里带吃的过来。
Sally: So what do you want to eat?
那你想吃点什么呢？
Greg: Does anyone have some take-out menus from nearby restaurants?

Sally: I think Mary does. Is there anything in 2)particular you'd like?

Sally: There’s fast food, like KFC and McDonald’s.

Greg: No, thanks. I’m trying to avoid

Sally: What kind of food are you hungry for?
什么样的是你最想要吃的？
Greg: Anything is fine, as long as we can get it fairly quickly, and it’s easy to eat.

Sally: Do you like 4)spicy, like food from Sichuan or Hunan?
你喜欢吃辣的吗？比如四川或湖南菜？
Greg: I can’t handle really hot, spicy food, but if it’s mildly spicy that’s OK.
太辣我就真的吃不了，但如果一点点还是可以的。
Sally: Sorry, I get really bad 5)heartburn from spicy food. Better stick to 6)Cantonese for me.
不好意思，我吃辣的胃会烧得很难受。还是吃粤菜好点。
Greg: Cantonese is fine, but I’m 7)allergic to shellfish, so no shrimp or 8)lobster for me.
粤菜不错，但是我对贝类过敏，所以不要给我点小虾或龙虾就好了。

Typically Americans only have one half hour, or at most one hour for lunch. It is not uncommon for people to stay at their desks and just have a sandwich or something cooked in a microwave while continuing to work.
If they don't, then a group of people may go out for lunch together, but to save time, they'll call the restaurant ahead of time and place their orders, so that the food is ready when the group arrives. Or, they'll order the food to go, and one person will go pick it up so that the others can keep working until the food arrives. Then they'll all sit together to eat.
看来，在哪里都是一样啊，午餐对上班族来说都只能是马马虎虎的了。不过，牺牲一下午餐时间，不用加班的话，就可以好好地去享用晚上大餐了。
