In the grand parade on September 3rd, the spare team of old soldiers moved a lot of people. Although the average age of these old soldiers was already ninety years old, they were still full of spirit. They passed Tian’anmen Square solemnly, raising their hands in salute to honor the 70th anniversary of China’s victory in the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
At that moment, I was staring at my grandfather who was dressed up tidily in uniform. My grandfather was ninety years old. He was not invited to the ceremony as a member of the square team, but I knew he felt exactly the same with those who were on the team. His memories flooded back while he was looking at those old soldiers on TV.
My grandfather was one of the soldiers who once fought against the Japanese invaders. The war was extremely tough. No one can tell what unbearable sufferings these Chinese soldiers had gone through. Although the weapons they used were not so well-equipped as the enemy’s, none of the soldiers felt afraid or gave up. Facing the danger of losing their lives in the brutal war, they were still willing to fight for the country they deeply loved—China. For they were Chinese and their hearts were beating together with China, as long as they were alive.
It is with their great contribution to our country that we can have the happy life today. Every medal they were awarded is honorable and every campaign they joined is worth remembering. Each of these medals and campaigns is a leap backward over years and decades, as well as a precious ticket for us to see a particular piece of history. Watching these old soldiers passing Tian’anmen Square and seeing my grandfather full of tears, I felt it was our great duty to spare no effort to study hard and devote ourselves to building up our country. Just like the old soldiers, the hearts of us young people are also beating together with our motherland!
