A Dell technician advised his customer to put his troubled floppy back in the drive and close the door. The technician was asked to hold on, and heard putting the phone down, getting up and going across the room to close the door.

Another Dell customer called to say he couldn't get his computer to fax anything. After 40 minutes of trouble-shooting, the technician discovered the man was trying to fax a piece of paper by holding it in front of the monitor screen and hitting the “send”key.
一位戴尔公司的用户打电话来,说他的电脑发不了传真。经过了40分钟的询问,技术人员发现原来这位用户就是举着一张要发送的传真,站在显示屏前,然后点击“发送键”来发传真的。

Yet another Dell customer called to complain that his keyboard no longer worked. He had cleaned it by filling up his tub with soap and water and soaking the keyboard for a day, then removing all the keys and washing them individually. He was once an engine repairman.
还有一位戴尔电脑的用户说他的键盘坏了,之前他刚清洗过键盘。他在浴缸里放满了肥皂水,把键盘浸泡了一整天,然后又把每个键拆下来,逐个清洗了一番。他原来是一位机械修理工。

A confused caller to IBM was having trouble printing documents. He told the technician that the computer had said it “couldn't find printer” The user had even tried turning the computer screen to face the printer---- but his computer still couldn't find it.
一位困惑的用户给IBM公司打电话说,他的电脑在打印时出现了问题。他对技术人员说,电脑上显示“找不到打印机”。可是他甚至已经把打印机正对着显示器了,可电脑还是说“找不到打印机”。

An exasperated caller to Dell Computer Tech Support because she couldn’t get her new Dell Computer to turn on. After ensuring the computer was plugged in, the technician asked her what happened when she pushed the power button. She answered, “I pushed and pushed on this foot pedal but nothing happened.”The “foot pedalturned out to be the mouse!”

A customer called Compaq tech support to say her brand-new computer wouldn't work. She said she unpacked the unit, plugged it in, and sat there for 20 minutes waiting for something to happen. When asked what happened when she pressed the power switch, she asked, "What power switch?"

Compaq is considering changing the command“Press Any Key”to“Press Return Key”because of the flood of calls asking where the“Any Key”is.

An IBM customer had trouble installing software and rang for support. “I put in the first disk, and that was OK. It said to put in the second disk, and I had some problems with it, but I squeezed it in. Then it said to put in the third disk ---- I just can’t get it in at all!”

A woman called the Canon help desk with a problem with her printer. The technician asked her if she was running it under “Windows”. The woman responded, “No, my desk is next to the door. But that is a good point. The man sitting in the cubicle next to me is under a window and his printer is working fine.”
一位女士给佳能公司技术服务处打电话,说她的打印机出了问题。技术人员问她是否在Windows下操作。这位女士说:“不,我的电脑桌在门旁边,但这个位置很好。我旁边小房间里的那位男士坐在窗户下面,他的打印机没问题。”

My wife’s aunt and uncle, when first dealing with E-mail, couldn’t figure out why they could only see the first few lines in an E-mail message. After 20 frustrating minutes on the phone, I went to their house to show them how to use the down arrow to scrollthrough their E-mail messages!
我妻子的姑妈和姑父第一次使用电子邮件时,搞不懂为什么他们只能看到邮件的头几行。在电话里讲解了20分钟,仍未能说明白,于是我就去他们家,向他们演示如何使用滚动条来查看邮件。
