The magnitude of the post-earthquake residual deformation directly affects the population’s ability to evacuate and escape smoothly, and the feasibility and necessity of post-earthquake restoration and consolidation. The participation of soil mass also affects the overall residual deformation. A finite element model considering and neglecting soil-structure interaction (SSI) is established for a high-rise building. The maximum deformation and residual deformation of the structure are obtained by nonlinear time history analysis at different ground motion levels. The results show that considering the SSI, the maximum inter-story drift angle increases, the maximum deformation and residual deformation increase, and the increasing amplitude gradually increases with the increase of earthquake intensity. Therefore, neglecting SSI will make structural analysis and design results more dangerous , High fortification areas should consider the impact of SSI.
