Solid micro-sensors have been widely used in the field of urethral dynamics to record urinary bladder and urinary pressure. At present, the solid micro-sensor generally used has the advantages of high sensitivity, high-quality and repeatable pressure recording, no reference point, but expensive, brittle and difficult to calibrate. The authors developed a new catheter for pressure measurement based on optical fiber technology, namely a fiber optic micro-tip catheter. The catheter consists of two optical fibers. The sensor probe has a reflective film that connects the two fibers, one for the input fiber and the other for the output fiber. The output signal is received by a photodetector that contains a digital pressure monitoring system. This monitoring system can provide continuous pressure readings and oscilloscope display signals, and by electrocardiographic
