今天激光器普遍应用于诸如电池、继电器外壳、起搏器、电子元器件、高速电机以至液压元件等小型元件的光能焊接.激光焊接首先是将两个焊接部份熔化,然后使之熔合在一起.实际上,很多金属具有反射性和传导性,这给加工带来困难.小功率光束几乎完全反射,所以光束常是脉动的,脉冲上升边的强度比其它部份强得多.大功率光密度可减小反射能力.金属表面可涂一层吸收材料如石墨等,以吸收足够的能量促使金属熔化.
